Here is a pipe   |

Should Programming Languages Count Toward Foreign Language Requirement

It short, absolutely. Academic approaches cannot be stifled by tradition. Let's be honest, most schools only offer Spanish and one other like French or German. It should be noted that people outside of the US speak at least two languages or at least more than the average US citizen.

However, let us ground ourselves into practical use. Programming or more specifically general, programming logic and design is becoming more relevant as a core subject. Do we have a basic understanding of how things work and do we need to have this knowledge? What happens if less spoken languages are not studied? Do we continue to force some subjects and not others?
